We were close enough to totality at our house in Maine, that it seemed worth a comparatively short drive north to get even closer. We thought we might drive all the way to Jackman, but more than a few others had the same idea. Rte 201 was a parking lot and we still had 60 miles to go along what is apparently the "Old Canada Road". So, we pulled off into the most amazing Robbins Hill Scenic Area in Solon, Maine- a gorgeous open hilltop with 360views as far as the eye can see. Perfect!
We parked in the field, laid out our folding chairs and opened the snack cooler. What a wonderful afternoon- the day was unseasonably warm and balmy, not a cloud in the sky, and we had 99.7% totality.Enjoy the photos, although we had zero success taking actual pictures of the eclipse- sorry to say you'll need to scour the internet for photos by more skilled photographers. We did marvel at the "everywhere sunset".
After the magnificent show, we tucked into Oak Pond Brewery in Skowhegan on our way home-- great find!
An eclipse AND beer?!!? What a night . . .
