Blue Flower Moon

Project this May weekend was to lay down rubber tile flooring in the loft- a wonderful, and affordable, alternative to just living with the existing subfloor.  When kids are piled up here for slumber parties, they will be glad for cushion under their sleeping bags.

We purchased the 24"x24" tiles at Home Depot, and scheduled Friday delivery.  Home Depot was delighted to confirm that the tiles were delivered... but we found none anywhere.  Not in the garage, not in the barn, no tiles to be found.  Finally Bill went sleuthing to neighbors' porches, and sure enough, a neighbor had been the unknowing recipient of 26 boxes of floor tile.  Ah, we took that off her hands, or rather, off her porch, and got to work laying it out.

Bill's Navy buddy and most of his family traveled to Maine from Florida in search of R&R, cool evenings, reconnecting and scoping out a vacation home purchase.  So, for the weekend and beyond, the farmhouse was full!  It was fun to meet old friends and make new acquaintances.  And yes, EVERYONE fit around the kitchen table for a burger dinner extravaganza.

May 18th was the full moon, with two titles, the Blue Flower Moon.  This doubly special moon was worth some researching.  Flower moon is the predictable May full moon, when spring flowers are coming into colorful glory.  Every May is apparently a Flower Moon- in case you didn't know.  But even more intriguing is the fact that it was also a Blue Moon- the traditional definition thereof, which indicates the 3rd out of 4 full moons in a season.  As Spring 2019 has 4 full moons, and May 18 was the 3rd out of four, it also earned the label of Blue Moon.  Thus, it was a Blue Flower moon.  Think I'm full of it?  Fact check me here.

  1. The floor looks great (for a young person) and the hamburger fest surely was an extravaganza-- but you know that I am really impressed with the Blue Flower Moon information! Having always subscribed to the ersatz definition of a blue moon, I love the new knowledge I have gained. I also love your photo of the moon!
