Mid-January weekend visiting with family, checking on the house and celebrating a birthday.  All that trim and fascia-board which we painted a short few weeks ago now is installed and the house looks great.

Inside, we must finalize our decisions on floorplan, layout, etc-- so, up the ladder we go.  Beth was none too happy to climb the rungs-- but it was worth it to see the second floor, walk the rooms and think about the nuances of fixture, furniture and room layout.  Changes to the kitchen (eeked in a pantry and worked on counter layout), adding a small bathroom dormer (washer dryer will be on the living floor- what a luxury!), closet space in bedroom, and-- like magic, the loft gets upgraded from storage crawl space to proper guest quarters.  Forward motion indeed! 

Worked hard and earned a rest by the fire.  We were introduced to the legacy of Captain Kool, who was North America's first female licensed ship's captain-- what a ground-breaking woman! Her namesake beverage is bold, brash and beautifully balanced. 

We settled on a new idea of a winding spiral staircase to save space and add character.  Details forthcoming, but this all lines up with our evolving house visual of the triskele spiral- symbolizing forward motion, action, movement and growth.  There will be more info to come about this spiral image, its symbolism, and all the ways it resonates with our new home.
