We kicked off this holiday season by fine-tuning Great-Great Grandma Murray's classic sugar cookies. Our double batch below makes 3 dozen cookies

Sugar Cookie Recipe:
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp Vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk
5 cups flour
2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
Using a stand mixer, cream butter and sugar until smooth. Add eggs, vanilla, and buttermilk, mixing well at each step. Sift in dry ingredients, mixing slowly, but thoroughly. Turn dough onto floured saran, wrap tightly and chill. Working with 1/2 batch at a time, roll out onto floured board- not too thin! Cut with jelly jar, lay out on nonstick baking sheet, sprinkle each cookie liberally with more granulated sugar. Bake 375 degrees for 10 minutes, turning 1/2 way through to ensure even baking.
Weekend work consisted on lots of painting- these grey trimboards will look sharp against the board & batten exterior. Still searching for the perfect front door color to match the cove and welcome all to our haven.
Wishing you and yours a peaceful winter holiday.
